Measured survey drawings for architects
Measure a room on site, place openings on walls A–D, and get a plan, four internal elevations, schedules, a titled sheet set and a DXF in millimetres. Your clients can use the same tool in plain words.
What does Roomveil draw for architects?
Roomveil turns site measurements into a small drawing set: a plan with poché walls, door swings, window sills, dimension chains and a room tag; internal elevations A–D with FFL and FCL levels; door, window and room finish schedules; and title-blocked sheets numbered A-101, A-201 and A-601 at a true scale such as 1:50 or 1/4" = 1'-0".
- Survey: internal width and depth to finish faces, floor to ceiling height, wall thickness per wall and a diagonal check for square.
- Openings: hinged, double, sliding and pocket doors with hinge side and swing; casement, sliding, sash and fixed windows with sill and head heights; openings, fitted joinery, chimney breasts, radiators and sockets.
- Layout: furniture and sanitaryware dragged into place, with activity zones shown in green or red.
- Sheets: A3, A4, 11×17 or Letter, auto or fixed scale, north arrow, scale bar, revision, status and a NOT FOR CONSTRUCTION stamp.
- Exports: print or PDF, DXF, CSV schedules and SVG sheets. Several rooms can share one project.
Can I open the drawings in AutoCAD or Revit?
The drawing set exports as a standard AutoCAD R12 DXF where one drawing unit is one millimetre. Dimensions are drawn as lines and text, so they survive the import. Layers follow AIA and US National CAD Standard names such as A-WALL, A-DOOR, A-GLAZ and A-ANNO-DIMS, with an -E or -N status suffix. In Revit, set import units to millimetres.
Which drawing conventions does it follow?
Line weights follow the ISO 128 hierarchy, with heavy cut walls, medium doors and thin objects beyond. Dimensions use oblique ticks, with millimetres shown without units or feet and inches written as 12'-6". Levels read FFL ±0.000 and FCL +2.700, or FIN. FLR. and CLG. in US mode. Door tags are circles and window tags are diamonds.
Is the CAD export really free?
Yes. The DXF, the PDF sheets, the CSV schedules and the SVG sheets are free, with no account, no watermark and no paid tier. Nothing is uploaded: the project is saved in your browser on your own device, and a share link carries the drawing inside the link itself, so a colleague can open the same set.
Can my clients use it too?
Yes. The Everyday and Architectural switch changes the words, not the features. A homeowner sees "height to the bottom (sill)" and "wall view", while an architect sees sill height above FFL, structural opening and internal elevation. US terms such as rough opening and AFF appear with feet and inches; UK and international terms appear with metric units.
What does it check?
It flags doors whose approximate clear width is under 775 mm (Approved Document M4(1)) or 32 inches (ADA), door swings that clash with furniture, sanitaryware without its activity space, less than 750 mm around a bed, openings taller than the ceiling, and rooms whose diagonal shows they are out of square. These are prompts for review, not a code check.
These are common rules of thumb and code minimums, given for planning. Always check the product label, the maker's instructions and your local building code before you buy or build.
