A 10 × 12 ft room is 120 ft². Add 10% for cuts and mistakes to get 132 ft². With boxes that cover 20 ft² each you need 7 boxes; with 22 ft² boxes, 6. For a diagonal or herringbone layout add 15% instead, which means 7 boxes of 20 ft².

- Floor area: 10 × 12 = 120 ft²
- Add 10% spare: 120 × 1.10 = 132 ft²
- Divide by the box coverage, e.g. 20 ft²: 6.6 → 7 boxes
